In pursuit of our goal to diminish educational disparity in the Lehigh Valley, we have teamed up with Lehigh Valley Reads, whose mission is to get every child reading on grade level by third grade.

Why third grade? Because up until that point, children are learning to read. After third grade, they need to read to learn. This pivotal juncture is where the opportunity gap begins and quickly widens.

That’s why we’re working alongside Lehigh Valley Reads to increase awareness and access to books for children at home and in the classroom. Their annual Minute Million Challenge campaign is just one of the ways to encourage readers of all ages to join in the mission and collectively read one million minutes to make a difference in the lives of children in our community.
